G4 DVD burner

By Mr. Origami ·
Just got a G4 with DVD burner. Can I remove the DVD burner and use it in my PC to burn DVDs - and move a generic CD-RW drive back into the Mac? I believe the Mac DVD burner is a Pioneer AR03 or something like that. I imagine a burner is a burner - there's nothing "Mac specific" about it.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that the MAC DVD burner will work on your PC. Try finding a driver for your Pioneer drive (PC version). I didn't find any! Can you be more specific on the model of your drive?

Good luck!!

It's the Pioneer DVR-103pb. Apparently - it's the same as the Pioneer DVR-A03. Apple OEMs them and slaps a little Apple sticker on it. Apple swears they don't do anything to it to alter it's functionality. I've already yanked it from the Mac, installed to my PC (XP), and it reads CDs fine. Haven't tested reading a DVD or burning anything yet - but so far it looks good. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this before.
