Game shutdown

By shahm ·
I have an AMD 1700 20 gig 7200 RPM HD, windows 2000, 256 MB ram 64MB video card and when I play games on this machine, the game just stops, The machine does not shut down, just the game. It does not matter what type of game it is. It can be a high graphic 3D game or a stick figure 1 year old kids game. Can anybody explain to me why my machine is acting like this?

99.99999% of Game crashes and lockups are due to damaged or incorrect Graphics and Sound drivers.
Check you rdrivers, update them and if neccessary, reinstall the cards and start with fresh drivers.
Secondly even if you have a FAT32 partition on your HD, many games will not run on Win2K unless they aer specifically made compatible.

I put in a new video card and also a new sound card, changed the memory and replaced the CD-rom. Still did not work. Cant be that the system is getting hot because its just the game that crashes. doesnt mater what game it is.

If you have a new Video card, I wouldn't rule that otu as a problem. It isn't uncommon to get a graphics conflict from registry entries or drivers left behind. I would also have the manufacturer of the card look into a possible defect. Best thingto try is call the card manufacturer, they'll run you through a bunch of hardware tests to see if it is functioning properly.

Tried all kinds of drivers and changed hardware. I think it is just the motherboard.
