Gateway Astro Lost Keyboard & Mouse

i was recently given a gateway astro. There are no CD’s or keyboard or mouse included.

I attached a USB keyboard and mouse and booted up. DOS recognizes the mouse and keyboard, but when i get into windows 98, it tries to load drivers for a Human Interface device and freezes waiting for me to click on next or hit enter. The keyboard or mouse do not work.

I boot up into safe mode and both work fine, although the mouse jumps around a little). i can not load drivers though in safe mode.

I really want to make this work since it will work well in my class as a stand alone workstation. Any suggestions?
