Gateway desktop stuck in hibernate

By sjd143 ·
My Gateway desktop (circa 2002) that seems to be stuck in hibernate. The button on the tower is orange and does not respond to pressing and holding it down for a few seconds to turn it off. The disc drives do not open when the buttons are pressed and I do not hear any noises (fan or otherwise) coming from the tower. It worked fine the other day so I know it's not the monitor. The only thing that I have done is completed some updates to Windows and Norton. Ever since then, it just has stopped working. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Orange light

by shasca In reply to Gateway desktop stuck in ...

Around here when the power button shows orange it indicates either the system board, or the power supply took a powder (failed).

I guess I should have been more specific - the power button on the tower does light up. When working, it glows green. However, in hibernate, it glows orange.

Can you get access to the BIOS ?...

Can you access the Safe Mode start page (press F6 repeatedly on power-up)?

If you have zero power to the system, check your fuses in your AC mains supply and plugs.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who posted a suggestion - I will try each one to see if it works. I'm thinking though that it may be a hardware problem since it is intermittent. The computer worked fine today after being stuck in hibernate all yesterday and last night.

Any suggestions on which piece of hardware could be causign the problem?
