Gateway Model MA3 not booting past windows screen. What's going on?

By nastrodamus666 ·
I have a gateway ma3 model notebook that came in today. Fixed the powering problem and still having issue with booting. I've looked for a service manual but gateway has none for the MA3 series that I could locate. Once the vista load screen comes up it will freeze. It does this on the start up repair and 2 different versions of windows making installation impossible at this point. It seems to only work once after it has completely cooled then after being for less then 5 minutes and asking to reboot after a repair is successful, we come back to the same issue upon reboot. Is there anyway to get past this or shall this be a file 13 situation?

This model seems to have numerous issues

So start at the beginning and Diagnose the system to find out what is wrong.

Things like testing the HDD with it's Makers Testing Utility, The RAM with something like MemTest and so on should be run.

if you don't already have the Basic Diagnostic Tools you can get a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD here and start with that.

This has been the problem with booting cd's in this thing. It will go past the bios and no further. This thing now won't even load any live linux distros. Seems to stop initializing after 5 to 10 seconds.

Maybe a USB Boot Device

With the Optical Drive disconnected is the way to go here.

But honestly if the unit is falling over that badly so early in the Boot Process it may already be too late to fix it economically.
