I bought a refil kit at a computer trade show for my wife, and she uses it all the time. She has refilled the cartreidge at least 4 times and it is still working great.
If the price is right, give it a try, we did!

If your printer is still under warranty, do not do it. If the cartridge empties into the interior, the manufacturer will just simply state T***S***. If you can afford to replace the printer if this happens, then go for it. Remember, justtify the cost savings over a possible replacement. By the way, I do not work for any manufacturer, just lost a HP 1000 by trying to save the $65.00 cartridge refill.

I've tried generic replacement cartridges with Canon, Epson, and Lexmark printers, all with slightly less than satisfactory results. The color(s) or the black (in one case) were not quite as good as the original, although you could still use the output. I've seen printers damaged by refilled cartridges, too (although it's never happened to me). Ink is the most expensive part of using an inkjet type printer, and the original mfrs. supplies seem to work the best AND are usually the most expensive. You need to assess the risk. For me, if the printer needs to be as reliable as possible, there isn't enough justification to save a couple of dollars. HTH --Will

I have am Epson Colour Stylus 640 which uses the same cartridges, and I refill them all the time. I also refill the same cartridges for another 5 friends' printers. I get 5-6 fills for each cartridge, and have refilled cartridges about 40 times all up, all successfully, with excellent results.

The money I have saved personally could replace my printer twice over.

I am a printer tech. I work for an independant company, and not a manufacturer. Fully 2/3 of the inkjet printers that come into our shop come in for damage caused by refills and generic inkjet cartridges. Some are repairable... others aren't worth the expense. A typical in-shop service will cost you upwards of $70, just for the first hour of labor. And if any parts have to be replaced due to the damage, well, you might as well buy a new printer. I recently had an officejet (print/copy/fax) in for just this problem. A refilled inkjet cartridge sprang a leak and blew black tar all over the inside of the printer. Attempting to save the customer money on the parts that would have to be replaced, we kept the printer in shop for several weeks, as it was taken apart piece by piece , and the parts soaked overnight in ink dissolver. Now, if you want to risk having this happen to your printer, go ahead and use refills... just depends on where you want to spend your money.
