I needed to produce plain text in Windows 98se, and am shocked to find that Control Panel’s “Add Printer” can’t find the driver (which apparently is tty.drv). It’s not on my W98se upgrade CD as such or under any “compressed file” name, apparently not on my W95 upgrade CD, and not on my hard drive, either. I downloaded a copy from an obscure company (non MS) site and put it into /Windows/System/, and Windows finds it, but it’s either corrupted or wrong, or Windows insists on having the .hlp file, too, because the installation gets aborted.
If I can dig up my old 3.1 diskettes (I’m guessing they’re there, because once upon a time I had tty installed), is it okay to use those old files on Windows 98SE? Or is there another solution?PS: If there’s a download available at Microsoft, I couldn’t find it. I found their brief discussion of this minidriver confusing. Apparently they think it’s standard equipment.
