get image from cisco pix 501 firewall

By Basir_Noutash ·

Is there any possibility to copy the configuration of a cisco pix 501 firewall onto a file (image) and then extract the image to another firewall so the configurations can be the same?

your help is appreciated in advance

Not completely sure about this one. But..

Can't you just copy the running configuration onto a TFTP server from enable mode on the firewall?

You will of course have to alter the IP addresses in the config when you upload to the new firewall since using the same would cause a conflict.

From Enable mode:

copy run tftp

Which will then prompt for a TFTP server address to use and a destination filename to use.

You will of course need a TFTP server running for this, but both 3Com and Cicso provide little tools you can download for that.

To restore the config, again from enable, do:

copy tftp run

Which allows you to check the config is correct before writing over the start-up config.

I'm not a cisco person but used to call people in.
He used to copy the config from telnet window & paste into notepad or equivilent text editor.

As pointed out in the previous answer you will still need to reconfigure IP address. Inadvertent duplication can causes net mayhem.

The 501 I used had a floppy under a plate that you could use for that.

The other answer is correct on the ftp also.
