    Geting round NTFS permisions

    Locked

    by channonp ·

I’ve got to search through all of the users areas to find a few specific files, but admin is not a default permission.

I try and search but get access denied. I have been taking ownership, adding permision, taking ownership of sub folders, adding permissions, etc. but this is completly unfeasable to do for 500 users. Is there some quicker way of adding it to all files/folders even the ones admin doesn’t have permision to even read?

    Ta.

I assume that the users directories are on the same server or a few servers. Instead of doing each individual folder, go to the root of the share or drive and take ownership of all and apply permissions to all subdirectories giving Domain Admins full control.

Sorry this was the first thing I tried but I still get unaccessable messages. Same as when I use xcacls.

        Thanks anyway

Had a similar situation happen recently. I started taking ownership and changing permissions – took close to 3 hours to do 2 folders. Changed my tactics.

Depending on what backup software you run. Search your backup – it only takes seconds. Then you will know where the file/folder is and changing ownership and permissions will a walk in the park.
