Getting a Total amount in Access Report

I 'm having trouble getting a total amount to appear in the footer of my Access report. I've been through the Access help documentation, I've written the formula in various ways, I've tried pulling the data from a table and a query, but I always a "#Error". I can drag my text box with the formula up into the detail section and it will work fine.

What's the secret?

Not sure if you have already checked but make sure that all of the fields you are trying to add are number fields. If you try and add a number field to a text field to a memo field... even if they all have numerical may cause you problems.

Make sure that the field you are using in your formula is in the record source for your report. the formula is like =Sum([fieldname from detail area]). I'd check the properties for your report and make sure it is pulling the data from where you think it is.

Hi. I'm having a very similar issue to the original poster. I'm trying to do a total for my report which is built from a query(qryTransDetails). I have checked the fields and all are set to currency. I have an amounts column that I want to get a total value for. I ran a query using this code:
and got a correct total answer I tried to insert a text box in the page footer and use the same code and I get #Error.. When I place it in the body, it repeats after every record seeing that the report is set for details.
This is in Access 2003 . Help will be greatly appreciated.
