getting AMD CPU to run faster than 1.2gb

By bugsucker ·
I have three system boards, i-Will, MSI, and ECS with AMD CPU's of 2.2, 2.0 and 1.6 GB. After insuring PC2100 DDR memory is installed, I still cannot increase size of FSB above 100 mhz and still boot up next start-up! Bios reports bus speed is 266 MHz, but speed still reported at 1.2 GHz. What else to be done?

Start by checking for a BIOS update that addresses CPU recognition.

If the BIOS update does not include additional CPU support, DO NOT update the BIOS.

If you decide to update the BIOS, make sure to follow ALL instructions.

Next, are these regular Athlon or Athlon XP CPUs?

The XP series of CPUs run at a lower clock speed than the 'rated' speed for the CPU.

In BIOS settings, verify that the multiplier and core voltage are set correctly.

The clock speed for Athlon XP is as follows:

CPU, Clock speed, Multiplier for 266MHz FSB
1.6, 1.4 GHz, 5.2
2.0, 1.667GHz, 6.2
2.2, 1.8MHz, 6.7
