Norton AntiVirus indicated a file that I should remove. Said I should start up in "Safe" mode, ala msconfig and checking the box next to /Safe. I did, and now I'm in an endless loop where the PC never starts up completely. Instead, I come to the below menu, and no matter which option I select, after regurgitating through what looks like a normal startup sequence, it returns to the same list of choices. How do I get out of this endless loop? The choices:
Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command prompt Last Known Good Configuration Start Windows Normally
Windows XP Professional is the OS.

Have you tried using one of those options I would try either lask known good configuration or start windows normally if that does not work stick in your windows cd as if you were doing a clean install then choose the repair option. That should fix your mbr.
The rating is more a "no longer mattered," as the endless loop eventually stopped. Re: the Recovery Console, I have only found limited documentation on it.
Yes, I've tried all of the above. I'm in the process of starting the Restore CD. When I had to leave the PC unsupervised, it was at a C: command prompt...I hope this is normal.
Assuming that this works, how do I get to the Safe mode for removing the undesirable EXE file that my virus program detected (as well as McAfee Security Center, which seems to also have a stranglehold on my PC)???
