Getting Past the Server from the Web

by garoe48 . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I have a small NT4 LAN set up. I’m also signed up with TZO.COM. I have Proxy Serevr, DNS and WINS set up. Everything is working properly with one exception. Nobody from the net can map to a drive past my server. For example, a buddy across town can map to \\server.domain.tzo.com\d but he can’t map to \\other_computer.domain.tzo.com\d. I’ve discovered a number of possible explanations but I don’t know which direction to go. Possible causes are:

My PDC is a multihomed system. The BDC has DNS.The web can’t see past the PDC to get to DNS on the BDC but DNS can’t be on a multihomed system.

I need NAT (Where? How?) 2000 has it, NT4 doesn’t.

I need a public DNS like granitecanyon.com. I tried and can’t use that because my dynamic IP changes too often.

Any help would be appreciated because it’s a pain right now. I have to get an email, move files to the PDC, get another email when they’re processed, remember where they were, move them back, blah, blah, blah.

Thanks, Glenn
