getting rid of xp

I am having a problem getting winxp off a pc i tried using the uninstall feature but it says i cant due to no registration numbers and i tried to get to dos to try and reformat but i cant seem to get to it without a boot disk and then it stil wont let me format can anyone help me get this rotten os off this pc?

You will need a boot disk with fdisk on it. Delete the xp partition (it may show up as a non-dos partition if it was set up as NTFS). Create a new FAT32 partiton, reboot your computer and format the drive. Note: you may also have to fdisk/mbr.

i have tried to fdisk but it says incorrect ms-dos version and then the pc shuts down grrrr windows xp = windows xtra problems? I am needing help in a bad way to get this thing fixed and put win98 back on it thanks to all that reply

Get a DOS boot floppy with Debug on it and then check out this page: http://www.computerhope.com/rdebug.htm#4 It can help. I've seen 2000 and XP do really odd things that prevent fdisking and formatting and this helped for me.
