Getting Win 2K to turn off the machine

By ssolomon ·
I have recently upgraded (read: reformat/reinstall) a mchine from Win 98 to Win 2k Pro. Now, when I shut down the machine, it does not automatically power down, as it did in the past. Is there any way to re-enable this feature? Or is it unavailable with the NT based OS?

Thanks!

The NT OS does support this feature. Verify that from the vendor of the PC that the BIOS supports this functionality in W2K.

I run Win2k and the shut down feature works, but it didn't start working until I flashed my BIOS with the most recent win 2k compliant revision. I would bet that flashing your BIOS will fix this.

yes Windows 2000 (all 4 versions) supports Advanced Power Management Windows NT4 and earlier took software called Softex. I would see if you can get a bios upgrade for your motherboard that is compliant with the Windows 2000 O/S.

It has a power down feature, but you have to tweak the registry.

Registry Settings:
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: PowerdownAfterShutdown
Data Type: REG_SZ
Data: (0 = disabled, 1 =enabled)
