Domain or Workgroup?

by petemcc In reply to Getting Win2k Pro to Acc ...

If you joined a domain you have to have an account for that computer and a user account to share resources. Are you on the same subnet? Check your IP address and if is it being assigned by windows automatically or by a DHCP server. Can you ping (by IP or computer name) any other workstations or a server? If you joined a workgroup, is it the same as the other boxes? Try mapping a network drive to the shared resource.Check for PHYSICAL problems with the NIC or connections. On a small workgroup you can try enabling netbeui, if that works it's a TCP/IP problem. Hope this helps, email me if you want
