First of all, I was having problems with my laptop shutting down on me suddenly though there would have appeared to be NO hardware failures so I figured it had something to do with the registry.
Which of the following would normally be the best tool to use? They all appear to find problems that the others do not. The choice is between the following:
Registry FirstAid Platinum 6.1.0 (build 1546)
Registry Clean Expert 4.60
UniBlue Registry Cleaner 2.0.1114.3657
Wise Registry Cleaner 3.20.110
RegVac Registry Cleaner 5.01.18
CCleaner
I tried them all – to no avail. I ended up worse off than when I started.
Next, I decided to use Norton Ghost 10.0 to recover the system back to the way it was 18 days ago (though how good Norton Ghost actually is and how stable the system was back then is something else). At least I managed to move all my data off it before I started trying to work on it. This system has cost me another whole day’s time
Well, recovery with Ghost to 18 days ago got the system running but it obviously wasn’t enough as it refused point blank to connect to my wireless network. Then I went back to an even earlier recovery point
Total confusion here. After two attempts at full recovery, although the system would connect with the wireless network on first use after recovery, it wouldn’t do it after a reboot (which is necessary).
I’ve checked the Workgroup settings – they are correct and the password is correct. The wireless antenna is definitely working as it sees and identifies my network but no matter what I do I can’t get access. To my mind, all settings are correct.
So I tried recovering to an even earlier recovery point, my third attempt at full recovery using Ghost, and the same situation occurred again – first boot after recovery and it recognised my home wireless network and logged in but then I had software telling me the license needed to be updated (e.g. Avast AV). At this point I could ping a website and it worked but IE told me it could not connect. Then I ended up having to reboot and my wireles program saw my home network (and others) but the wireles modem absolutely refused point blank to connect to it, even when I reinstalled the password
That is the point I have reached
I’m really having prolems here but I think the above says it all
