Here is the story:
There was a Global Catalog Server and on a Member Server an Exchange Server, the GCS was runing the ADC.
The GCS was reinstalled after a contingency and the roles where trasfered to another DC server, now the original GCS was reinstalled with the same name and dcpromo executed and the roles retransfered back to it; it seems that I have los the Global Catalog Server.
how come ?
well the echange server is not starting after this error:
Process MAD.EXE (PID=2864). All Global Catalog Servers in use are not responding:
something.domain.com
something2.domain.com
So I tried to use the checkbox on the Sites and Services to pont the global catalog server to the original server and another one; but still the error appears and the service is down.
So I checked with the “Active Directory Replication Monitor” and neither one of the servers are marked with the Global Catalog (and still the checkbox appearas in the Sites and Services).
And I also noted on the properties of my Exchange Server on the Directory Access Tab, when i try to look at the Global Catalog Servers on the combo none appears; and if I try to add it manually wont let me becouse it wont find the domain..
My users are login in ok, and all other services like dns and wins seem to work ok.
Also I checked the dns and there are a couple of entries for the gc service; and when I try to reinstall the ADC back on the old GCS it says “no global catalog server found error” bla bla and then the setup stops.
Can I recover from this error ?.:
