Going from dial-up to DSL – what extra security precautions should I take?

by charliespencer . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

My phone company is finally offering DSL at a decent rate ($19.95, only $4 a month more than my dial-up).

I’m running XP Home SP2 with McAfee anti-virus, ZoneAlarm software firewall, and Search and Destroy for malware. All are set to update automatically weekly. I normally turn my system off when I’m not using it. This will be a wired connection to a desktop, not wireless.

I’ve never had a malware problem with dial-up. I’m asking for precautions and suggestions I should take to keep it that way.

Thanks.
