    GPO or what?

    Locked

    by luc geurts ·

Currently I am at work for a firm which is busy with migrating to Windows 2000 on servers and XP on desktops. Now there is a strange problem.
In the GPO’s I can see no restrictions on users letting change icons or the startbar.
Still users (roaming profiles) are not able to change icons, change the startbar etc…
The only thing I did see in the GPO was desktop redirection to the local userprofile. Is this part of the problem?

could be. if the user has a manditory profile, they may be able to change their desktops while using the computer but said changes are not saved to their local machine profile.

But they have no mandatory profiles, strange things are happening here.

Run the RSOP utility on an XP desktop that is experiencing the problem. This will tell you the status of the GPOs that are being applied to that specific machine.

Ah and something else, when i put their desktop in a gpo to redirect to a share on a server, they can update icons, but still no taskbar.

Found the problem, redirection was returned from networkshares to user local profile for desktop, appdata and taskbar. Only local profile was removed with a vb script they did not document. Thx guys for trying to help.
