GPS on Wireless LAN?

By Sagacious ·
Hi!

I hope that someone would really enlighten me on this aspect.

How can a system pinpoint a handheld user position on a local wireless LAN network?

I understand that through the sending and receiving of signals from the handheld device bythe access points would enable the backend system to determine the user locations. Basically through 3 access points, forming a triangle and lock down on that fellow position.

Would someone please advise me whether this is posibble and how to go about it.

Thanks in advance.

Sagacious

The system can pinpoint a handheld user if the handheld have a gps. The GPS will give you the LAT, LOG at a given time. This information can be transmited back to the network and them map to a specific point. One example will be the location of a car with a handheld. You can check www.teletype.com

I can help you more, if I have more information about what you need to accomplish.

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Ricardo

Pretty Cool Question and Your logic sounds right.

The wireless unit would have to make contact with a receiver/transceiver 1st and last and so knowing where they(receiver/transceiver) are you could at least narrow it down by trace and a prog. to do the local data work.
Pin point though,
without GPS is a beast of a Q.
