Graphic Card & Monitor

By flight_lieutenant ·
Hey all, I recently had a problem with Windows XP Home which forced me to reinstall to repair something. Before reinstalling windows xp home all my hardware (including Graphics Card & Monitor) were working fine.

This morning I reinstalled WIN XP Home, once finished I found that my Graphics Card and Monitor had not been detected. The screen is absolutely fine, can see everything. I tried reinstalling the drivers for my monitor but it doesnt show in device manager. As far as my graphics card goes, it should show under "Display Adapters" in device manager but Display Adapters doesnt show up either! After trying to install my graphics card the installer says that no device is detected, please could anyone help???

Graphics Card: PNY GeForce 5600FX 256mb
Monitor: 17" hp72
RAM: 256mb Generic
HD 80gb Maxtor
Windows XP Home Edition
CPU: AMD Athlon 2600+

Cheers - Simon

Try loading the software manually witout letting windows detect the software.

Start by running Windows Update.

This will take care of some software bugs and will also update device drivers.

Download the latest driver from nVidia.

After you reboot from the Windows update, install the nVidia driver.

That should take care of everything.

As a side note, Windows Update believes that they have a newer driver than the one from nVidia.
I always use the manufactures device driver.
