graphic,and audio

I have a gateway computer that I bought from a friend I have no papers or cds,I had to refomat then I had to install a new modem,now I dont have audio it tells me audio does’nbt have enough compressed space.Also my color went to 16 and i can get it back up to 256.Can you help?
