i ran into this problem myself.I resolved the issue by hitting the enter key after resetting my resolution.Apparently when you make a change the “apply” button is highlighted automatically.Let me know if this works for you/

Michael, just as a thought, check the graphics card in device manager and see if there’s any issues [yellow exclamation marks indicating a problem]. Also, just try reinstalling the graphics card drivers. Whenever I can’t change the default resolution, it’s usually because the drivers aren’t loaded or incompatible drivers are loaded [which Windows will ignor or not use].

i have spent so much time setting up two identical pentium 60. now on one resolution jumped down. customer only used picture-viewing program. when i tried to run the second one it stopped at start up. both windows 98A. i think i will say goodbye to p60 and any other compaq-crap, only setup new pentium4/athlon xp with high quality power-supplies.

I had a similiar problem where I changed the settings and wanted to change back but was unable to see the ‘screen area’ or ‘Ok’ button to make effective. I was able to change the resolution by using the ‘tab’ and ‘arrow’ key to alter the setting’s. Hope this helps.

The OS automatically disables refresh and resolution rates that it believes (rightly so at the time of writing the OS) the graphics card cannot support. This will in most cases (95%) be solved by downloading the latest service packs (from Windows Update or Download) and/or drivers from the device manufacturer.

i have now one more problem: the screen is blue. i mean it has a bluish cast. and its a compaq-crap-pc with integrated card….with compaq-bios(another crap). hope hp did not take over this stupid “we can built our own world”-behaviour!
