    Graphics card is acting weird

    by pavica.kracun ·

    I had a PC with rtx 2060 and i5 7400, and I upgraded to i7 13700F so I also got a new motherboard, asrock b660 pro, new ssd, 720W argus(82%) psu and more ram(24gb).
When I try to turn the pc on, the monitor says that it has no signal and stays black, but when I change the 2060 for the gtx 1050, everything works normaly. I tried putting 2060 into my previous pc (with 500W psu) but with and older monitor and it works normaly.
Also Ive already changed the hdmi cables and its still the same, and the results were the same with the new pc having 500W psu instead of 720W.
    What could be the cause?
For easier comparison: Rtx 2060 works in the old pc with i5 7400, older motherboard and 500w psu, but not with asrock b660 pro, 720w psu and i7 13700, and gtx 1050 works in both configurations, and with both monitors, 1 being an lg 240hz gaming monitor and other being some random tv with hdmi

Sounds like the 500W PSU is the issue and I suggest that you spend the extra $ for a larger, more modern PSU. I suspect that the new CPU uses more power than the older one and is putting a larger strain on the system.

This tends to be a fairly cheap and easy replacement vs. other internal components on the computer. Let us know what you wind up doing and if that resolves the issue. Best wishes.

I have attached a comparison of the specs for each processor here: https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_core_i5_7400-vs-intel_core_i7_13700.

This may help you. I can only speculate.

As you have proved both work

The only option left is that the Old Graphics Card is not comparable with the new M’Board.

I’ve had to change a Graphics card when I applied a Patch to my windows system simply because it killed one of the screens that I use apparently the update didn’t support Dual Screen setup’s.

But you have you answer use the other Graphics card or buy a new one that supports what you want to do.

Also I’ve never heard of that PSU but then again I only use Antec, Corsair or Gigabyte PSU as they tend to look after the computer and burn out if hit with a nasty spike so it’s a simple cheap repair when it happens.

The issue might stem from compatibility or power delivery. While the RTX 2060 works in the old PC, it doesn’t function with the ASRock B660 Pro motherboard and the i7 processor laptop components in your new build, whereas the GTX 1050 works seamlessly. Update the motherboard BIOS to improve GPU compatibility and ensure proper PCIe connections and power cables for the RTX 2060. If the problem persists, test with another PSU.

If your graphics card is acting weird, try the following steps:

Ensure the drivers are up to date by downloading the latest version from the manufacturer’s website.
Check the physical connection of the card to ensure it’s properly seated in the PCI slot.
Run a system scan for malware or overheating issues that could affect performance.

No point in suggesting updating the drivers

When the system is not turning on.

I’m not sure how you could update anything in any OS without a working OS to begin with.

I would just buy a newer PSU honestly
