Group Policy issue - user in many groups

By bradq ·
I've created an Organization Unit and set a group policy to redirect the users "my documents" folder to a \\server\sharename. It's working great except for users who belong to multiple groups. For example if someone just belongs to accounting, that will redirect to the right folder. If someone is in sales and management, how do you determine which group takes priority?

The way the group policy works is by choosing a group and then where you want their documents redirected to.

It sounds like you run a loging script to redirect the my documents folder, is that correct?

If that's the case, you'll have to post the script for us to have a look.

Hello, no it's done with group policy and not a login script. If you create a new policy, the area I'm using is listed under:

User Configuration > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > My Documents > Properties > Redirect users by Group

I forgot about that one.

MS is somewhat unclear about what group membership determines the redirection, I have read reports that the users primary group determines the redirection, but I've also heard scenarios similar to yours. Try changing the primary group membership for one of your users and see if that works. If it doesn't you're other option would be to create specific groups for the redirection and use those in the GPO.
