group policy not applied

By tryagain ·
A client has win2000 OS. It is joined to a domain but group policies are not applied.
I checked event viewer of the client & I found these errors :
Windows can not determine user or computer name. return value 1722.
The redirector was unable to initialize security context or query context.

What can I do ?

It sounds like you have a DNS name resolution issue. The knowledge base articles Q288167 and Q261007 discuss your problem.

Go to http://search.support.microsoft.com and search for the article numbers.

If Active Directory is improperly registered, SYSVOL is not shared or can't be contacted, or something else prevents the connection to the domain controller you will get the redirector error.

You will get the first error if DNS is improperly configured.

DNS is absolutely required to make the whole process work. Group Policy wont even load if DNS is not working properly. Some possible problems that need to be checked are as follows:

Correct DNS server entered in the TCP/IP properties on both the domain controller and the clientyou are connecting to.

Open the DNS console and double-click on the zone for your domain. Ensure that four folders appear: _MSDCS, _SITES, _TCP, _UDP. These are the SRV records for the domain and they must be correctly registed or nothing will work.

Dynamic Updates are allowed? Right-click on the zone in DNS console and check to make sure that it says "Yes" for the "Allow Dynamic Updates" drop-down box. If this is set to Secure there are several configurations that need to be done to makeit work. Go to all the machines involved and type ipconfig /registerdns at the command prompt after you change it to "yes".
