Group Policy/Password

By Lino767 ·
How do I apply a password policy that informes users to give them some time (10 or 15 days)before they chage their password they have been using for the last year or two? My new policy will let them use their pw for 120 days. Some users used the same password for the last three years, I don't want them to change that password right away, I want to give them 10 or 15 days before they change it then after that my 120 days pw policy will start counting.

Send a memo out and tell them in "X" number of days the new password policy will be in force.

Then implement the policy in the Default Domain Policy whenever you decide to have implementation day.

In a Windows domain, default alert is 1/2 of the password age. If the password age is 30 days, a user gets a message automatically after 15 days. you can change that by changing the password age. 90 days age 45 day notice. you can also have windows remember passwords so that users can't use the same password over and over again.

I believe the default is actually 14 days. You can change the notification period using a Group Policy. See
