Groupwise 4.1a Notify GPF

By kevin_chong ·
After installing Groupwise 4.1a client I get a GPF when trying to open Notify. I've tried deleting the BIF file and reinstalling.

Groupwise 4.1a Notify GPF

by Ray Kornhoff In reply to Groupwise 4.1a Notify GPF

Kevin,

This brings back memories...I upgraded our 4.1a PO to 5.5 in December 1998, and have not regretted it a bit. Notify works on IP in this version and is much less touchy.

I'm assuming you had killed your TSRs before executing Notify, so that none of them could be the culprit. Other than this, verify that appropriate rights on the PO directory are granted. Finally (and I save the best for last), each user has a notify file under the OFNOTIFY folder in your PO directory that corresponds to their FID. Delete this for the affected user, then send them a message...it will automatically get recreated. Sometimes these notify files get corrupted, and killing it was the cure of many a Notify GPF in my 4.1a days.

Good Luck,

Ray

Raymonds great replies key on the server end of rights and files, if the culpret is on the workstation you will need to download a cleaning agent for the registry - http://support.novell.com/filefinder/1557/index.html
Finally the 4.1c updates were free downloads from Novell. I can also dimly remember the 1a gpf problems, and also that c corrected these.

Of note is what client are you using? The most stable clients in pre-zen days was 3.12 and 3.22. Several of the early vers. 3 clientswere NOT stable and with these issues are protocols... Groupwise 4 uses ipx/spx while 5 uses IP by default.

Hope this helps
