GroupWise 5.5 Address Books missing

By cpope ·
I have a new workstation (Intel 550 MHz, 128 MB, Win98SE) in which GroupWise 5.5 often does not start -- not responding, and when it does come up, displays email but all address books are missing and not available. This happens with difference GroupWise mailboxes. Each mailbox displays properly with full address books on other workstations.

GroupWise was uninstalled and installed again with same results.

Go into the control panel- click on microsoft mail. Go into the add/remove settings and you should be prompted for the novell address boooks. This has fixed it for me on NT. If they are running notify, turn it off so the change takes effect.

In Windows 2000 (and I'm sure Windows NY)the Novell address books can be added as you suggest. However, in Windows 98SE the ADD choice sets up an email account. Opening Address in GroupWise and then opening an address book should also work. But, everything is greyed out in the dropdown menu and this cannot be done.

Thanks for an answer that I'm sure works for Windows NT & 2000.

This sounds very much like you have a bad install of GW.
Remove it using add/remove. Then nuke the directory c:\novell\grpwise. Then find and d/l the nre.exe from support.novell.com. There's a new tool also, but the NRE works great. Install it, and run it against the workstation. Reboot. Uninstall Outlook.
If you need Outlook, then reinstall, making sure that you are using the corporate setting. Reinstall GW using straight defaults. Make sure that it is at least as current as the POAon the server.

The address book now seems to work. The key was in cleaning the registry. I used GroupWise Cleaning Agent gwca55 instead of nre.exe. TID 10026879 was also helpful.

Thanks
