GroupWise WebAccess Install

By chris.riley ·
I have a customer with GroupWise 5.5 installed (inc. GWIA). They are interested in implementing GW WebAccess, I do not have any experience with the WebAccess install. Can anyone give me any advice in terms of prerequisites, things to consider etc (or point me towards any resources on the web)?

The following link should give you all of the information that you need and it provides a step by step. There are other TIDs for installing webaccess on different platforms though, if you are putting it on Linux, NT, etc...

We ran webaccess whereI used to work and I thought it was pretty slick, no problems with it at all...

Just got done getting it working in our lab yesterday to go live this week. Overall it took about 8 hours to get everything installed and running and that included a scratch install of a Netware 5.1 box to act as the web server outside the firewall.
The only problem I had was getting the web server and Web Access Agent talking. Turned out I needed top copy the commgr.cfg file from the WPGATE directory to the sys:novonyx\suitespot\cgi-bin\gw5 directory. You'll probably have to do the same if you run them on seperate servers. support.novell.com had answers to anything that popped up.

As long as both computer can talk to each other(mapped drive or unc path) all is fine. You can install both the gateway on GW server and server files on the web server.

If you have a fire wall between the computers you will have to set up a proxyIP address to gw server and open the required ports in the firewall so that the computers can talk to each other.

Then you will have to run install twice. Once to create the gateway on the gw side and once on the web server to install the serverfiles. then you will have to copy the file commgr.cfg to the webserver in the required place. Your help file will tell you where it need to be for your installation.

Users quickly get to like WebAccess, because they can use their work account from at home. Build WebAccess on a domain of it's own, don't combine it on a server with the GWIA, and prepare for usage to go up within a few months of install. (If you put WebAccess with GWIA on the same box, and later decide to move one to another server, both have the same IP address given out to the public. Also, GWIA is known to abend it's server, and will take WebAccess down with it if they are on the same box.)

I recommend the Enhancement Pack version. If you are not ready to go there yet, start with the latest Netscape Enterprise Service (or Apache), so you can move to the GW5.5EP when you can!

Look in your groupwise software directory. Under grpwise/internet/webacc is a setup.exe. Novell's knowledge base has an article that is very helpful in installing/reinstalling the software. The TID # is 10054953

Good luck, we've been running itfor 4 years now, and I'm just now experiencing my first "glitch".
