Growing a VMWare virtual machine disk

By zaferus ·
We're running VMWare ESX, and I need to "grow" one of our Server VM's by a few GB.

How can I grow the image size?

You can use vmkfstools for this.

syntax is:
vmkfstools -X <new size> K/M/G vmhba0:0:0:0/mydisk.dsk

so for example:
vmkfstools -X 10G vmhba1:0:0:1/vm1.vmdk

will make the disk file 10 GB.

Be carefull though not to shrink your file by accident!

It actually was:
vmkfstools -X 6G /vmfs/vmhba0:0:0:x/x.vmfs

But the important thing is I got it to work, thanks for steering me in the right direction!
