    GRUB error 22

    by frawser7917 ·

I am using Vista Ultimate. I had installed the new Fedora 11 as a dual OS. After some time I formatted the fedora 11 partition from vista (Through disk management in vista). Now i got an error saying GRUB error 22. It is not allowing me to boot into vista.

Then i tried installing Ubuntu as a dual OS. Now it is showing an option to load vista as well.

I removed ubuntu the same error is coming. Now i have to use both the OS to avail Vista in the boot option menu. other wise i am getting that GRUB error 22.

I tried to repair using vista boot cd. But the FIXMBR command is not recognized.

The actual message while boot up is

    GRUB loading stage 1.5
    GRUB loading…..
    Error 22

Hence the error. You would want to remove any Linux system from it’s boot loader (GRUB, in this case). You do it from the Grub GUI, or from within the Linux installation itself, if it has the boot tools there.

You should be able to fix this with the Vista boot CD, but you need to familiarize yourself with the commands available. In your case, you need to know that the command you want is bcdedit /fixmbr (you may need to do bcdedit /fixboot first, I’m not sure).

Or if you can get into the Grub gui or command line, you can have grub restore the original boot record (Vista’s) and remove itself.

This may explain the Windows side better:

      Or maybe:

Let us know how it goes.
