Guest ID

can we remove guest id from user manager. so far i just disable the id but my audit team from HQ has inform to me that i should delete the ID.

Hi,

No its not possible to delete this account. You cant delete either the Administrator or the Guest accounts.

You can rename it, though. I suggest you rename it to some unguessable name like guest428546

There is a 3rd party tool, DELGUEST, that will delete the Guest account. Here is a URL to get this tool:

The makers of this tool do express the need for caution in using it.

The best way to handle the Guest account is to do some or all of the following:

1. Rename the account.
2. If on a domain create a global group with absolutly no permissions and assign the Guest account to it. By default the account is placed in the Domain Guests group but instead of defining permissions for this default group it is better to create another.
3. Give it an unbelievably nasty password (no need to remember it, it can always be reset).
4. Set User Cannot Change Password in User Manager.
5. If you do 3 then set Password Never Expires (safe guard if you do not force users to login to change passwords)
