Guidelines for Home directory limits

By cdcents ·
I am implementing size limits on home directories and was wondering what is typical in most organizations. From casual discussions with some other industry folks I am hearing that 100 to 200 MB is the norm. Your input is appreciated. Thank you

It, as you would expect is a judgement call based upon the storage you have available and the kind of work you do (graphics files would take far more space than text documents for example).

We have 4 tiers. 40mb, 100mb, 250mb, 1gb. They are basedon the task of the employee. The vast majority of the users fall in the 100mb range. They do also have "Departmental Shares" where they save documents and files that their group uses.

Hope this helps!

We set a limit of 50 MB. There are a few (based on need) that have 100+ MB... but that's mostly marketing (graphical presentations, etc).

Ultimately, your need to come up with a number that represents your maximum storage capacity for user's data and divide it by the number of staff who will use this space.
