    Hacked!

    Locked

    by pzhamilton ·

I am running 2K server with NAT and have found that we have been hacked and a textfile message left in the TEMP folder. Their message says they noticed someone with the IP trying to hack into their network and have sent a warning to us. Nobody wasin our building at the time of the incident. How can I prevent it from happening again and also monitor our users to see if they are doing any hacking activities?

For preventing anyone from hacking you and leaving a message, install a firewall. You can find more info on firewall from trusecure.com ‘s whitepaper.
Maybe there is a trojan/ worm isnside your system. Firewall will help here also. There are programs like pestpatrol which should also help.
hope this is of some help.

Is your Win2K server behind a firewall? Is the firewall configured correctly, specifically is it blockink TCP port 139?
If you do not have a firewall in front of your Win2K box, do you have IP Filtering enabled on the machine?
Have you tried doing a port scan against the Win2K box from the Internet, to see what users on the ‘net can see about your machine?
These are the questions you need to ask and find out.
