My parents’ computer has the rootkit and I have disabled system restore, booted into safe mode, done a virus scan with NAV Corporate, deleted the things that were quarantined. I found somewhere that suggested the restoration of certain registry values. After doing all of the above and rebooting, at first it appeared that the rootlot was gone, but it resurfaced.
The OS is XP Pro.
