What is the hardware configuration of the 4 machines? Win95 has a known problem running on machines with a 100mHz or higher bus. What is the Illegal Op that you get, and exactly when does it occur? More details please.

I’m not being sarcastic but why not upgrade to 98SE at least. Better yet, Win2K.

      Greetings Cecilia:

Hope things are going well in Malaysia. I’ve enjoyed my few visits there.

Several thoughts come to mind when I read your description of your problem. You don’t indicate how often this happens. If your system allows you, getto the Microsoft Windows Update page and make sure that you have the latest service release for Windows. There are quite a few differences between the inital release of Windows 95 and Service Release 2.

Second, try and boot into safe mode. If youcan get into safe mode successfully, shut down the system and try to reboot into normal mode. Just the process of going into safe mode sometimes solves problems.

Third, and this can be time consuming, do a step-by-step startup. It may be that a single driver is causing the problem. Do this with a sheet of paper and take it slowly. Write down each driver or program it asks about, then on the first try, say yes to the first choice and no to everything else. If the boot is successful, do it again saying yes to the first two, and so on. Once you get a boot that fails, skip the last item you said yes to. This can take a lot of boots, but can help isolate a problem.

If you can, post an additional comment with any other symptoms.

      Humbly submitted,
      diabetic
