hangs on bootup

By priscillaspretties ·
I have a machine that has XP installed that always hangs on bootup. Have tried reformatting and reinstalling without resolution of the problem. It eventually will boot in after two or more attempts. Using "last known good configuration" doesn't seem to make a difference. Any thoughts?

A few things, 1 defragment the system. 2, limit the amount of programs that start when the system comes up. 3, reinstall the latest service pack, or download patches from windows update. 4, update drivers (often newer drivers perform better) If the problem is with a driver, especially the NIC card, then this can dramatically slow a system down.

Try a new power supply. if the power supply is not working correctly not everything is initilizing and that could cause a lock up.
