Thank you Purple!

by wizard57m-cnet Moderator In reply to Happy Independance Day

While it's hot where I live, Oklahoma, it has eased up some, 5 to 10 degrees
Farenheit, highs in the 98 to 100 range...there's even talk of a "Canadian
cool front" making its way close, lowering high temps into the 80s!!
I don't have any big plans...might throw a hot dog on the grill, hehe!
BTW---if you or Daryl are responsible for this "Canadian cool front"...
THANK YOU!! One other note, this summer we're not near as dry as
we were last year, so the risk of fires is a bit lower...BUT, everyone
still needs to stay safe handling fireworks...I'd rather not get a call
that one of my patients burned themselves and needs my services!

Just finished up fixing one of the shoes on "Trigger"...

by wizard57m-cnet Moderator In reply to Thank you Purple!

Trigger is my trusty old Monte Carlo, she picked up a couple of wood screws
on the road last weekend in a front hoof, hehe...so I removed the offending
screws and patched the holes...brings back memories of one of my many
early 20's jobs while in college...worked in a service station, fixed flats,
even on big rig tires...those can be hazardous! Anyhow, Trigger has all
her shoes back on now, ready for the trail! Over `160,000 miles now!

Heigh-ho! Heigh-ho!

by NickNielsen In reply to Happy Independance Day

It's off to work I go...

Normal work day for me. But I at least get paid twice (holiday pay + regular pay) for it!

At least you get paid a bit extra...

by wizard57m-cnet Moderator In reply to Heigh-ho! Heigh-ho!

back when I worked for a large, very large, but I won't name it, corporation
working holidays were just another day...that was working as a pharmacist
not in IT. If I get a call now, at least it is for myself!

It's not too bad

by NickNielsen In reply to you always have to work h ...

Corporate gives us five "floating" holidays, to be taken at our discretion. This is in addition to our regular vacation days. Of course, the vacation days are referred to as 'PTO' (paid time off) and must be used for any time off we take: personal time, sick time, vacation, etc.

I like that the United States is so socially advanced and takes such good care of the people who keep the economy going...

I have a little time off

by AV . In reply to Happy Independance Day

It is hot as Hades where I live in NJ, but its still nice to not have to deal with work. Poor Nick seems to always be working on the Holidays, but not so for me. I'm heading to the pool, but the sun is just too much so I can't do it for too long.

hope you folks get some cool weather soon

by PurpleSkys In reply to I have a little time off

we've had a few pretty warm days over our long weekend but not as hot as you guys have had it. And then to make it worse for you, there's storm coming with all that heat.

We spent our Canada Day weekend at my brother and sister-in-laws new home. The house and surrounding yard is covered with mature trees and sits up on a little hill so there was always a breeze. My sister-in-law went out and bought a little wading pool for the little ones and everyone had a great time. :)

Nature of the job

by NickNielsen In reply to I have a little time off

As long as the stores are open on the holidays, I'll at least be on call.

But it also means that when I do get time off and vacations, I'm not usually dealing with large crowds. B-)
