Hard Disk

By tanwuguan ·
Hi all,

I've got two physical IDE harddisk hooked up in my PC. But after waking up this morning. I noticed that in 'My Computer' there's one drive missing.

My question would be:

1) What's wrong with the harddisk?
2) Is there any implications from this as I've just changed the motherboard of my PC.
3) Is there any way to recover the data on the harddisk?

Thank you in advance.

You need to check the BIOS to see if the unit can see the drive. Changing the motherboard caused a change in the BIOS, possibly the BIOS is incompatible with that drive type. If you have another machine you could set the drive as slave and install as second drive and recover from there. You didn't say whether it was the master or slave, but I assume it was slave as the unit did boot. Stanger things have happened when changing the MOBO. I keep a slip of paper in each machine with drive type and details so that in the event something fails I know what it should be. Most common is a CMOS battery failure while shut down, or I have one unit that is never shut off, and when I get a power outage, the CMOS fails and it resets to default settings. That way I know what to set everything to and get it back functioning again. Do you shut the unit down nightly?? If it is left on, did it experience a power failure?? Need more info.
