The warning means that part of your hard disk reported a data error.

It could be a sign that your hard drive is starting to fail.

Back up ALL critical files and keep watch for more failures.

If you get more failures in the next few days, it is time to replace the hard drive.

If you go several months with no more failures, it was likely just a bad sector on the disk.

Usually windows idea of fixing something is to delete it , can you still boot into windows?
If so I would copy all your private files to another disk or computer and try a Repair using the XP Cd, you could also try finding out the manufacturer of your Hard Disk , go to the relevant website and download thier diagnostic utility for that brand and model ( usually you have to creat a bootable floppy disk first, just run the file after downloading it and follow the onscreen instructions. Then put the floppy disk in the system and reboot it , it may attempt to fix the error , but failing that i would copy all private files out and format and reinistall windows again. Make sure you installa reputable Antivirus and Malware programs as well.
Hope this helps
