Hard Disk Partition

by kevin . Updated 23 years ago

I have a Seagate ST340015A 40GB IDE Hard Disk Drive that will be running under Novell Netware Ver 3.12.

I have set my computer CMOS to auto detect my hard disk setting, it’s show 40022 MB / 19158 Cylinder / 16 Head / 1025 Precomp / 19157 LandingZone / 255 Sector. I get 40GB of disk space.

I boot up my computer with MS-DOS 6 and do a fdisk. I only manage to get 8GB of disk space.

I also boot up my computer with Window 98 and do a fdisk, select Yes for enable large disk. I also manage to get 8GB of disk space. I set my dos partition for 50MB of disk space and format the drive with MS-DOS 6.0 system.

I put in Novell install diskette into drive A and run install follow the system 1, system 2 and Unicode. After all this, I was askfor the server name and internal address of which I have done. Load ide and select default. Load install and do a NetWare partition. Then I do a volume and create sys, I encounter error message which look like this.

Description
Error allocatingmemory for FAT table

Severity
Warning – Program execution may not continue normally

What is this mean? It’s regarding my memory and my partition is wrong? Please advice.

Do I have to set CMOS to manual?

Thank you.
