Hard Drive.

By rodrigud1 ·
I have just received a computer with 2 hard drives 730mg and an IBM 212. I formatted both and I can't to get the system running again. I took out the IBM and I have been trying to install my program (Win95) and I have been unsuccessful. I keep getting the insert disk screen, and it tells me to enter F1.

Hard Drive.

Even for W95, 730MB is a bit small.

How did you format the drive?

If you are installing W95, you need a W95 startup disk. (not just a boot disk)
The startup disk has several files that load items like CD drivers.

If you do not have a W95 startup floppy, you can download a set of files from the links at www.bootdisk.com

Next, boot from the floppy.
Run fdisk /mbr from the DOS prompt.
Then, run format c: /u/s
This will clear the drive, and make it a bootable drive.
Then, run setupfor W95.
Depending on the boot files, you may need to switch to the CD drive first.
