Hard Drive Enclosure (Data Transfering Problem)

by topianno . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

My girlfriends laptop got a virus recently that prevented her machine
from booting. I bought a Thermaltake Hard Drive enclosure in hopes
of recovering her files and then reformatting the drive and
reinstalling Windows.

I am able to access the files on the hard drive. The problem Im
having is when I attempt to transfer the files to the hard drive on my
machine. I am able to transfer files to my computer. However, the
drive freezes (times out) intermittently when transferring files. Some
files transfer easily, while others freeze the drive. I am then forced to
turn the drive off and remount it and start over.

My girlfriend has a ton of data on her hard drive, so transferring one
file at a time would take forever. The drive even times out
sometimes when attempting to transfer one file at a time. I thought
it might be because the old operating system is still on the drive. Ive
tried to delete it but it won’t let me delete any files on the drive.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with a problem like this?

Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Gabe
