Hard Drive Failure-Can I Swap Platters?

by wjmcmanus . Updated 21 years, 3 months ago

My Toshiba MK4019GAX hard drive is toast. I opened it and found one of the heads is broken off. Can I simply put the platters in another Toshiba hard drive and retrieve my data? I know this sounds desperate, but that’s exactly what I am right now. I’d appreciate any help on this as there is 40GB of my life on this drive and it would take me months, if not years, to recover from this. Thanks in advance.
