hard drive from computer to computer

By aplu ·
I want to move my hard drive from my computer to another computer. I have XP Pro on the drive in NTFS format. I seen an artical on this but can't fine it now. Was wondering if you could tell me how to prepare my drive for the other computer. It has a different motherboard and cpu. I'm running a Asus A7V333 with a 2000+ AMD. I want to move it to a dell intel 2.0 different board and chip, what is the best way of doing this with out getting the blue screen. I no i have to uninstall my programs andany drivers i can, but what do i do about the motherboard drivers and all the other devices i have to disable.

I found that my computer recognised the drive (the BIOS set to detect HD) and the hardware just plugged in. The operating systems is on the HD so its only the Motherboard that needs to detect it.

Switching the hard drive to another computer should not cause a BSOD,the problem you are anticipating is when you try to load XP pro on another machine during install on the other machine and it detects the hardware from the first machine to which may be a problem if you have to reinstall XP

Hi,

I hope your user name is your e-mail address.

I sent you copies of the Knowledge Base Article that Microsoft used to have on moving a drive with XP installed to new hardware.

Microsoft lost the article when they renamed all the articlesin the knowledge base.

I also sent another article from a 3rd party site.

Hope this helps.

Chas
