Giving the operating system would be most helpful

Open the Control Panel and click on Add New Hardware wizard, proceed to install the modem per on screen prompts, donot let windows detect the modem

Choose to select the modem from list and then manually install the modem and software drivers

Apply this method to the audio software installlation also

I am assuming that you made a fresh install of windows onto the new hard drive.

You need to start with the motherboard, or chipset manufactures reference drivers for your motherboard.
Windows (98 in particular) will not detect and install many PCI devices until the chipset drivers are installed.

If you need help identifying the drivers needed, check out the motherboard identity tools at either www.motherboards.org
or www.wimsbios.com

first check in the mycomputer properties that the hard disk drivers are installed proprly. if it shows a yellow alert msg then it has some problem in the installation. You need to reboot with the version of win you have installed. Then everything would get installed. If this HD is having an operating system then u would have conflicts. You need to make this HD as the secondary or primary HDD
