Alright, so a few days ago I purchased a Maxtor Basic 1TB External Desktop HD and for the life of me it WILL not work on my desktop.
It shows up in BIOS and Device Manager, but it does not show up in My Computer. I tried to resolve the issue through Disk Manager, but for some reason all that shows up in there is my CD ROM drive.
I am not sure if it is associated, but a few months ago I did remove my CD ROM drive and replace it wish a new one, but I used the same connections. I don’t understand why it is showing in Disk manager and why my new HD isn’t.
I also have aprox 9 USB ports on this computer, all but 2 are in use for various devices such as a tablet, scanner and so on. Would this make any difference?
I am running on WIndows XP SP2.
I tried plugging the HD into another computer and it works perfectly. The laptop I tried it on is Vista and is not configuted with any additional hardware.
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it, I am lost for what else to do.
