Hard Drive Logging

by david.millward . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

Hello,

I am currently diagnosing a problem affecting a number of PC’s on a network.

I find that when I boot up, everything is nice and speedy up until I log in. Then the hard drive light stays solid green for about 3-7 minutes whilst the system is booting up and about 15 minutes after the boot has completed.

I ran performance logs and can see that the disk read time and avg disk queue are almost at 100% permanently. After the 15 mins passes it returns to normal levels and the PC is running fine again.

My question is this: How can I track what process/application is causing the disk to be read at 100%

Listening to the machine the HDD is not chattering, which would indicate data is not being read, but something it keeping the channel open and I want to eliminate this.
